#Closer&Closer week 7 – Puzzled

This weeks Closer & Closer object for the photography project as you can see below is a wooden puzzle. Another kind of texture I wanted to capture in this series. The wood and black background work very well don’t you think?

#Closer&Closer week 5 – The Egg

The Egg

The entry for week 5 in the Closer & Closer project was a bit of a challenge to me. Just as last week I looked around the kitchen for every day / normal objects. Preferred to be round due to the round shadow play from last week with the apples I wanted to try photographing some more round shapes. And then I noticed a box of eggs sitting on the kitchen counter…

Ok. Got an object with round shapes to it and an other texture then the apple. So, that is decided. This week is going to be an egg. But, again that challenge, how to make it interesting? How to capture the character of the egg? A small feather was caught in the box before transporting it to the supermarket and an idea grew inside my head. But I needed some more of the feathers. So back to the supermarket and looking through some more boxes for feathers. People must have thought I was going crazy. The things I do for a photo…

After my mission was accomplished it was back into the photo studio with the egg and the collected little feathers. White background did not work so switching very quickly to black for a more dramatic feel to it. And wanting to photograph an egg standing is also a challenge can tell you that!  It took me some time and I played around with the lights to create the texture I was looking for, to make the egg stand out with its sharp shape but to also not loose the soft feeling of the feathers. Very pleased with the end result. What do you think?

#Closer&Closer week 4 – The Apple

4.0 Ansgar Artwork Photography Project Closer and Closer 2017 - The Apple.jpg

For this weeks photo in the Closer & Closer project I looked around the house for an every day object to photograph. Sitting at the kitchen table eating my breakfast I noticed the bowl of apples sitting there. Green and red round objects, with their own challenges of shadows and focus points. It was decided, this week was going to be around apples!

Struggling a bit at first with how to make this object come alive and how to portrait it in a way that is fitting to the project. Apples with a white or black background, making them float, roll and putting them in every position you can think of. But nothing seemed to ‘pop’ really. The round shape gave me another challenge with lighting to make this shape also come forward on the screen.

I needed something that reflected the object and showed its character. But what is that? After some thinking and moving flashlights all over, to play with shadows, I tried the green apple combination with a dark background. That was a strong combination I found and next step was to add something for that fresh and juicy feel that a green apple has. Spraying it with water added that extra layer of texture to it. Do you think I captured the character of the apple in this way? Love to hear your feedback on this weeks photo!

#Closer&Closer week 2 – The Bull

The Bull

For this weeks photo in the Closer & Closer project I decided to work with some shiny material and see if I could tackle the lighting and shadows to produce a good black and white image that reflected the feeling of the material. Something totally different then last weeks photo and it has given me new challenges and things to learn. Great to be working in the studio again and broaden my photography skills. What do you think of this weeks photo?

ZigZag

zigzag

Walking around the train station of Naarden Bussum my eye caught a corner showing a brick wall that was shaped in a zigzag. During the last year shooting photos for the #urbangeometry project I found loads of sites like this and walls became a thing for me to look more closely at because they sometimes can be a hiding place for great textures.

Just a few more days and the new project Closer and Closer will kick of and this week a new feature will be added to the site, so before we step into the new year please check in here again for the latest update! Great things just around the corner!

Have a creative day!
